Bolger Micro
Date: Sat, June 18, 2005
Phil Bolger designed this nifty little sailboat back in the 80's, and quite a few have been built. Typical of Bolger, it's all about function and the removal of all extraneous bits -- including things like a pointy bow. On the other hand it has nifty little extra bits, like handholds in the bow to allow you to board it easily.
There's also a stretched version, were you take basically the same bulkheads and just spread them farther apart, this is called a Long Micro, also a nice boat.

Cecilia:
I dunno, It's kinda ugly... What is it's attraction for you?
Dave:
It's functionally beautiful in a Bauhausian sort of way. It's exactly perfect for it's task. It's a small boat that has a very heavy keel and sails like a much larger boat. It has enough accomodations built in to keep 2 people happy.
Besides, I'm "Mister Acquired Taste"... I only like something if it's weird and different... ;)

Steve Gillon:
I, too was initially put off by the Micro's looks, but the more I looked at the design, and read about it, the more I liked it. Bolger designs to function, and will make a boat look however it needs to look, to do the job.
The micro is just a jewel, and you can find pictures of it that show it off as a very sweet looking little boat.
