Building your own Stormtrooper outfit would be almost as cool as building a Dalek in my opinion. People would certainly be more able to recognize what you are, but the Dalek has a certain wonderful craziness to it that makes me love it a little more. Besides, I'd have to lose some weight to fit into the Stormtrooper outfit.

The Stormtrooper would be a bit more fun in some situations though. Wandering through the mall as a Stormtrooper would be easier -- you could use the escalators...
