Cecilia's Bookbinding Page!
Date: Mon, November 21, 2005
Our very own Cecilia has put together a very interesting article on how to bind your own book. Not only that, but she figured out how to do a binding similar to the O'Reilly lay flat binding that they used to use on the Perl books.
Also included is a description on how to make a cover that looks exactly like a professionally published book, right down to a (fake) bar code. Also some good information on typesetting for print using Latex, and a mini tutorial on how to make something look like a wood block print in Gimp.

Cecilia:
Hey, the barcode isn't fake! If you scan it, you will get the price of Dave's Perl O'Reilly book!
Dave:
Hahahahaha, rofl.. That's awesome.
Jim:
Interesting article but some of the text is a bit hard to follow (especially the part about attaching the cover).
If you didn't gather when you visited, we're all pretty book crazy, too. I'd far rather read a flattened tree than a CRT any day.
Dave:
Yeah, I think maybe some more diagrams of how she put the binding and cover on would help. Now getting her to make a couple more diagrams might be a problem...
Suresh:
Very nice article. But, I concur with the OP that the final stages of this page could be re-written to make it better, with pictures to stress the point. That would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for the article in the first place, Cecilia. One of its kind!

Dave:
Yeah, I agree -- we should add more text, unfortunately, we need another book to bind, and we are out of ideas at the moment. :)
