Corvair Aircraft Engines.
Date:   Tue, July 5, 2005
The Corvair may have had a questionable suspension design (in the first couple of years at least, I don't want to raise the ire of Corvair fans everywhere -- I LIKE THEM), the engine however was a very advanced design. It's a flat opposed six; similar to Lycoming and Continental aircraft engines, except they put a lot more money into the Corvair's development than the aviation engine companies ever had a chance to.

From what I can tell, the best information on how to convert it to aircraft use can be found here. There is tons of good information on the web page; but he does sell the actual conversion plans through the mail.

Lots of Corvair engines have been used in Airplanes, Bernard Pietenpol was the first back in the early sixties, and it has been used in many different airplanes.
