Home Made Wood Turning Lathe
Date:   Sat, February 26, 2005
Can't afford expensive woodworking tools? Here's a site that will show you how to build your own lathe for wood turning.

It's not as glamorous as a metal lathe but for those of us who prefer wood to metal (due to expense, ease, etc.), this may be the ticket.

Find it at http://www.mimf.com/articles/lathe/index.htm. I was actually looking for information on foot powered wood lathes (such as flywheel powered or spring pole lathes) and stumbled across this article.

Although I haven't tried it myself, it might be just the project for this summer.

Dave: Thanks for the article!

Oh, and the MIMF website is really cool, lots of really cool information on making musical instruments beyond the article on the lathe.

Cecilia wants to get a lathe some day to make baroque era woodwinds -- clarinets, bassoons, flutes, etc. She's owned a book for years on how to do it (probably the subject of a future book review...), she just lacks the tools.
