Homebuilt Arc Welder
Date:   Tue, September 6, 2005
This guy sells plans to make your own arc welder. His website probably has enough details to make one without the plans if you are reasonably handy. Not that the plans are too expensive.

I should say, he certainly did a good job with the "free instructions from the website, but better plans if you pay for them" style site he has. There is just enough detail there for you to say to yourself "I could build this, I just need to find some old microwaves....", but enough information lacking that you will still want to buy the plans. Plus it helps that he's only asking a very reasonable sum for the plans

Cecilia: Wow, that is really cool. Think of all the things you could weld!
Jim: I have got to show this one to Tim. He knows how to weld, has access to lots of old microwave parts and has been lamenting that he's tired of renting a welder every time he wants to work on a project.

It's like this guy saw him coming.

Dave: I do have a couple misgivings about the homemade arc welder...

1. That little box will be moving a truly huge amount of electrons, keep one hand tied behind your back while working on it.

2. Someone should do a homemade TIG... :)

I think the homemade tools articles are peoples favorites, any comments on that?
Ron: Looking for a homemade TIG welder? Here is one I put together: TIG WELDER
RIchard: in my firefox browser you must copy the link location and open them in a new window to view the links....dont know if the site is at fault or maybe my browser. Anyway, this is absolutely an amazing effort on the part of the author. The details and instruction are excellent
Dave: Hmmm, the links are working on Firefox on my own machine.

Sorry it took so long for your post to show up, I had to turn on moderation because of content spam. :(

On a happier note, I recently made a post about the DIY TIG welder, for the moment it's on the front page of the site (www.builddiary.net).
