Shortwave on a Crystal Radio
Date: Tue, November 8, 2005
(Ed. Note: I recieved this in the submission bin yesterday and it is definately worth a look, I especially recommend one of his links; this guy has a very fine aesthetic sense. Oh, and I think it's the coolest thing to be able to pull in shortwave with a crystal set! I built one for a high school electronics class and it was hard enough to pull in the bajillion watt local AM station, let alone shortwave! Very impressive...)
Hi Dave,
I have heard Radio Canada, VOA, HCJB, Duetche Welle, and Radio Spain on Shortwave. The amazing part is that I heard these on a Crystal Radio! I find this quite amazing. The secret is a long antenna wire and a good ground. You can actually heard stations on other continents without batteries or electricity.
A tip: hook up your radio to a ground and an antenna wire (about 60 feet long if you can do it). There are 2 square "plugs" on the back of your radio. Good luck DXing!
