Sky Pup
Date: Thu, March 10, 2005
It is probably readily apparent that I love anything that is built on the cheap. This has to be just about the ultimate inexpensive airplane. The materials are mostly plywood and foam, the engine is probably taken from a snowmobile. There's only 2 axis controls (no ailerons), but who needs that when you can land within 100 feet?
Did I mention that they use jacket lining material to cover the plane? Brilliant.
Oh, and did I also mention that the Sky Pup looks very scary to get into once you've started the motor? Very scary...

Nick:
Ok Dave there should be limits to everyones insanity, I think you just found yours. Stick to alluminum, leave this for other people...
BTW: I am leaving your web site up on every computer in the apple store.... free promotion.
Travis:
Yeah so let me think about this one... NO!
I like my head attached to my body. Not wacked off by the prop as I climb into an airplane that would kill me anyways. And as for the no ailerons bit, that's like having a car without steering. It works great until you need to turn.
Otherwise. Cheap. Cheap is good.

Dave:
Ok, now in defense of the Skypup... It can do coordinated turns using dihedral effect, like a Flying Flea. It's landing speed is so low, and the rollout so short, that in a really heavy crosswind it could land across a runway. It was designed by a professional auronautical engineer who worked for one of the light aircraft companies in Wichita (not sure which one, but I think Cessna), so all the calculations have been done. It's actually a pretty good airplane from everything I've heard. I'm not building one however... ;)
I will probably post a link to a couple planes like this one that I would build next week.
