I planned our trip before I knew I was going to build a Pietenpol. Once I had settled on this particular design, I heard about the Brodhead Pietenpol meeting, which occurs during the weekend before Oshkosh starts up. Unfortunately, I had set up our schedule so that we would be in Idaho when it occured. Next year!

Here is Jack Phillip's Pietenpol -- Icarus Plummet. Very very pretty airplane. Cecilia and I wandered around the plane for quite a while and no flaws could be found. The judges came by while we were there, and stayed quite a while.

A couple gentlemen were working on this Sky Scout wing in the wood aircraft construction tent. it's basically the same wing as a Pietenpol, except the ribs are made out of 1/4"x1/4" spruce stock.

This Pietenpol is one of the last made by Bernard Pietenpol himself. It's the first Pietenpol powered by a Corvair engine. When I first started looking at Pietenpols in earnest, I fell in love with the cowl used on this plane and a few others. Now that I've seen it in person, I still like it a lot, but I will probably do something different. Well, that, and the cooling intake is in the wrong spot for a William Wynne Corvair conversion. When viewed from a distance, it has a very pleasing line to it. The EAA Museum has several historic hangars nearby, this plane sits in Bernard Pietenpol's old hangar.
