Within 5 minutes of starting, we had determined a few things;
- The center divider was off by 1/2" at the top of the cabinet
- The glue had dried
- You shouldn't precisely mark up a board, only to flip it over and
completely ignore the marks
- Screwdrivers make passable chisels
The divider was in the wrong place, so we removed the screws and started knocking at it
with a rubber mallet until it came off. We did some sanding and the parts fit much better
when the divider was in the right place.
I don't remember exactly were the whole day went, we got a lot done, but it doesn't
look like it really. The last picture shows the first cabinet with both sides on,
and enough screws to keep Atlas from lifting the world.
When we tried to put the other side on the 2nd cabinet, the reflectors were out of true
and it took a lot of clamping to pull them back into true (no pictures, sorry...). We
left them clamped but not glued at the end of the day, just to let them slowly go back
into true until the next time we could work on them.
As usual, this stuff takes 3 times longer than you think it will.

Where did my 1/2" go? ...or... Damn tape measure, the inches are too big ...or...
It's glue creep! happens all the time ...or... We were on too much glue.
That Elmers man, it'll fuck you up good. ...or... insert funny comment here...
Judicious use of the 'Chuck chisel'. Named in honor of my father, who never
uses a screwdriver when a butter knife will do... You can also see the black
marks made by the rubber mallet in removing the baffle.
Notice how much better everything fits when you MEASURE PROPERLY!
You can see here that we used all those little 45° offcuts to shore
up the baffles, a nice tip I think. You can also see were we accidently cut
the wrong sides of the longer reflector, and some of our fixes for that...
Filler good. I know it's ugly, but it'll be hidden. After I took the
picture (and the filler dried), we filed it down and it now looks much better.
Looks pretty good at 1.5meters...
