Lockheed always made pretty airplanes, and this is no exception. God knows how much time was spent on polishing for the show.
I think there's a bit of a self portrait in there somewhere.
Our friend John Bouyea works for FlightPrep, who has a booth at Oshkosh every year, and always bemoans the fact that he never has a chance to see any part of the show that doesn't involve the immediate environs of whatever hangar he's stuck in.
John loves airplanes, and it must be absolute torture to be stuck so close to nirvana and not be able to go take part. He's building a KR-2 and is incredibly knowledgable about everything aviation.
My nefarious plot was to take a whole bunch of pictures of incredibly boring Cessna 172's, and then take them by the FlightPrep booth and regale him with "Oooh, look at those wheelpants, that must be custom paint", and "take a look at the upholstery in that one..."
Globe Swifts are pretty, especially the ones with the slotted cowl.
