A weekly poker game is one of those things that really brings people together and also provides us with a way to grow in our own way. Situated between the beginning and end of the week it's a great way to relax and prepare for the upcoming weekend. After six months of playing on an oblong octagon shaped piece of plywood covered with $12.99 "felt" from the fabric store, it was time to build a serious poker table. With that in mind here are the requirements.

  1. Must fit comfortably inside the current room.
  2. Must be able to sit a max of 10 people at one time.
  3. Must have real felt (or something similar) on the playing surface.
  4. Must be able to fold up for easy storage.
  5. Must have a padded rail.

So let's get started.

Materials
March 5, 2006

Time Spent:5.0 hours
Costs:-------
5'x5' Russian Birch $44.99
Banquet Table Legs $16.99
Faux Suede $24.99
Pink Craft Felt $9.99
Fabric Adhesive $6.99
2" Foam $18.99
Sewing Needles $4.99

Finding a five foot wide piece of plywood is not exactly easy to find, especial since it normally comes in 4'x6' sheets. Gluing and/or screwing two sheets together is not that stable so without spending $100+ on a 5' x 10' piece one inch thick, who do you turn to.... the Russians of course! Apparently in Russia there standard dimensional plywood is 5'x5'. (Hate to see what there stud widths are like.. eww!)

Item 1: Russian birch 5' x 5'

After a quick stop to Home Depot...

Item 2: Banquet table legs

Good felt is very expensive. That's probably why pool tables cost so much. After calling around and getting quotes I finally went out to the Mill End store to have a look. After spending a grueling 2 hours at the Mill End Store, I walked away with the following materials:

Item 3: Camel color Faux Suede (short hair)
Item 4: 2" x 36" x 36" foam (medium density)
Item 5: Pink Craft felt
Item 6: Fabric spray adhesive
Item 7: Heavy sewing needles

Now it should be noted that some the necessary materials where leftovers from other projects. These include:

Item 8: Marine vinyl
Items 9 & 10: Misc plywood pieces and facial board

Now it's time to build!
