A weekly poker game is one of those things that really brings people together and also provides us with a way to grow in our own way. Situated between the beginning and end of the week it's a great way to relax and prepare for the upcoming weekend. After six months of playing on an oblong octagon shaped piece of plywood covered with $12.99 "felt" from the fabric store, it was time to build a serious poker table. With that in mind here are the requirements.

  1. Must fit comfortably inside the current room.
  2. Must be able to sit a max of 10 people at one time.
  3. Must have real felt (or something similar) on the playing surface.
  4. Must be able to fold up for easy storage.
  5. Must have a padded rail.

So let's get started.

Shuffle up and deal!

I am very pleased with how the project turned out. It's been through several tournaments and gets used weekly. I have received many complements on it and it has held up very well. Its had some accidents (multiple beverage spills/food droppings), but its been fairly easy to clean up.

Lessons learned.

It does require a complete brushing about once a month. Because of it's width, the banquet table legs don't allow it to be as stable, but that was a personal choice since I needed it to be able to fold up. If I had a bigger space I would definately have 4 permanet legs on it. (And if it was stationary I might install a drawer to hold the chips.)

Its been a great table and I expect many more years of service out of it. I have also determined that reproducing the table is not that hard, so if anyone is interested, please contact me with your requirements. Any shape, any size, I'll customize it to your needs.
